"I'm not sure how he morphed into the bitter-sounding, hate-mongering name-caller he's become, but I'm sorry he did."
-Conservative game show host Pat Sajak in an article he titled "Mea Culpa: I put Keith Olbermann on national TV." (Olbermann guested several times on Pat's old late-night program, The Pat Sajak Show.)
"I think if he needs to apologize for anything, it needs to be that talk show."
-MSNBC's Keith Olbermann responding to Sajak's comments.

Conan O’Brien, Night Two: Heavy Losses Reported
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Late Night, Talk Shows, Cable, Ratings, Video,
Viewers were excited to tune into Conan O’Brien’s Monday premiere … but they weren’t as pumped on Tuesday. Conan’s cable show lost one-third of its viewers in the transition from Day 1 to Day 2.
Maybe Jon Stewart is to blame? O’Brien’s new late night talk show is competing directly with the cable king, and we don’t like his odds. Monday’s Conan scored 4.2 million viewers, compared to 2.8 million the following night. (His rival Jay Leno averages around 3.6 million for his famous network gig.)
Critics were largely unenthusiastic with the Monday premiere. One writer at the Los Angeles Times complained about O’Brien’s endless NBC jokes, a gag that’s running a little thin nine months after the Tonight Show fallout.

Nancy O’Dell Taking Over Mary Hart’s Entertainment Tonight Post
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Talk Shows, Syndication, News,
Although she’s the host of The Insider, it turns out Lara Spencer did not have the inside advantage when it came to Mary Hart’s job.
For months now, it had been speculated that Spencer would take over Mary Hart’s soon-to-be vacant post at Entertainment Tonight. Unfortunately, Lara lost out to another blonde personality: Nancy O’Dell.
O’Dell is, of course, no stranger to entertainment reporting. She previously hosted Access Hollywood alongside Billy Bush.
"I remember watching Entertainment Tonight when it first premiered and dreaming about working for the show someday," O'Dell stated. "I am honored to be the one chosen to fill a TV legend's seat and I hope I can do her proud!"
Nancy will first appear on the ET set in January when she begins correspondent and fill-in anchoring duties. She will then take over the highly-coveted position when Hart signs off at the end of the 2010-11 season.
"Leaving this job was not an easy decision, but knowing I will pass the baton to Nancy O'Dell makes that decision much easier," Hart said. "Nancy is a talented and respected entertainment correspondent. We have spent many years working on opposite sides of the celebrity battlefield, and I know the show will flourish with Nancy as co-anchor."

The Daily Show is Number One

Maybe Conan O’Brien shouldn’t get too cozy in his new office at TBS.
The former NBC funnyman will debut his Conan, a new late night series, at 11 pm on Monday … and that means he’s facing the toughest of all late night competition.
According to TVByTheNumbers, The Daily Show is the top-rated late night show among adults age 18 - 49. The numbers are in, and Jon Stewart is officially the king of late night … but during one of the weeks reviewed, The Daily Show, The Tonight Show and Late Show with David Letterman were all showing re-runs.
We have a sneaking suspicion that all Daily Show ratings spikes come just when FOX News hires new staffers.

VIDEO: Zach Galifianakis Smokes Joint During HBO Panel
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Talk Shows, Cable, HBO, Video,
UPDATE: Maher's rep claims the "joint" wasn't real.
Zach Galifianakis may not be a Mel Gibson supporter, but there is one thing he is in favor of: the legalization of marijuana.
During the recent broadcast of Real Time with Bill Maher, the Hangover star surprised his fellow roundtable guests when he pulled out a special prop for the discussion on Proposition 19.
Just in case you were wondering if Zach was simply blowing smoke, conservative commentary Margaret Hoover (the woman seen laughing) verified he wasn’t.

VIDEO: President Obama on The Daily Show

The President of the United States of America appeared on Comedy Central’s Daily Show Wednesday night … but if you thought Barack Obama was going to spend his time trading quips with host Jon Stewart, you were wrong.
Stewart, as usual, set the tone for the interview immediately: serious but fun. He solemnly addressed the President and shook his hand before presenting him with Mug Force One -- a classic Daily Show cup, embellished in celebration of the occasion.
The two got down to hard-hitting issues right away. Stewart opened up the floor to talk about health care, Congress -- Obama’s entire administration.
